Greetings ~

Sadly, we don't know their names. They are lost to history. But the images of these young women take us back to a time of hoop skirts and trollies. This is the Victorian age of the period between 1890 and 1915. And the images of that period is brought to life in the colorization of the pictures that were taken then.
At first these studio shots, taken with the old box camera and sulfur powder lighting were in black and white. They were meant solely as a family keepsake to be admired while hanging on the wall of a family's home. Some studios made an attempt to colorize photos by adding tints and other methods. But they were not lifelike at all. But with the advent of computers, the internet and a host of folks who have found the development of colorizing old photographs, now these subjects are put into a whole new light. They are actually brought to life in a new way.
Younger people today do not realize that, our history was in black and white. The only way to experience color was by gazing at water color and oil paintings. All photographs and engravings then were black and white. With all the new developments in the technology of the computer age, it is understandable that someone would begin colorizing the old photos.
Many people prefer the original black and white. And I too prefer that. However, you have to admit that color enhanced imagery does add a flair to the old pictures. Items in the photograph such as jewelry, buttons, etc., are heightened to a degree where they now stand out. We can get a much better idea of how one dressed and what they wore in centuries past.
So check out these photographs and the women who posed for them. I just wish we knew their names.
